Bangladesh a compact and densely populated developing nation, grapples with large number of its population living below the poverty line. Despite being an agrarian society, the agricultural sector struggles to sustain the needs of the burgeoning population. Day laborers, unable to secure opportunities in agriculture, find themselves idle for a significant portion of the year. The landscape changed in the early 1990s with the emergence of the garment and other industries, alongside rapid urbanization and industrial growth, resulting in a heightened demand for skilled labor in all sectors such as like construction.
However, a substantial pool of unemployed and underemployed individuals, lacking the necessary skills and capacity, faces barriers to entry into these rapidly expanding sectors. In response to this critical need, the Skill Development Training Institute (SDTI) was established in December 2008 as a private organization, subsequently gaining affiliation with the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) in June 2008 and from National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) in December 2021.
Initially focusing on five construction trades: Plumbing, Masonry, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Tiles and Marble Works, and Steel Binding Fabrication. Skill Development Training Institute (SDTI) aims to bridge the gap between the demand for skilled labor and the available workforce. The institute’s facilities include a 1 (One) Acre own land campus equipped with 9 classrooms, essential administrative accommodations, and Residential facilities for 150 trainees’ participants simultaneously. Additionally, the campus boasts ten workshops, ample space for cultural events, and recreational facilities, providing a comprehensive environment for skills development and learning.
